Data: Baseball Networks


This .zip file contains data for bipartite matchup networks between Major League Baseball batters and pitchers from 1954--2008. We include two types of networks in the form of adjacency matrices:

(1) weighted matchups W in which the element W_{ij} is given by the

    number of times that pitcher i faced batter j

(2) weighted outcomes M in which the element M_{ij} is given by a

    performance index ("score") based on Runs to End of Inning (RUE).

M* and W* variables in the MATLAB .mat file are named according to the year of the data (1954 to 2008) or, for the multi-year network, with a "multi" tag.

baseball* and pitcher* variables indicate the unique 8-character ID codes for each player, from the Retrosheet data.
